Well they say it takes 6 months to settle into a place, and it sure has. Cardiff has somehow become a ‘home’ for me now. Somehow in the last 6 months I’ve fitted in PhD training, fieldwork planning and reading and writing, alongside getting to know Cardiff city and the beautiful surrounding countryside! But it is now almost time for me to ‘up sticks’ and head to The Azores for 9 months of fieldwork!

I feel a bit like Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit – running out his door and forgetting his pocket handkerchief…  but it is happening!!! … “I’m going on an adventure… “!!! (Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien). 

Keep an eye out for posts here as I travel out to the Azores in a few weeks time, visit the university there and then move to an uninhabited, remote, volcanic islet… 🙂
